Daniel in the lion’s den……..

Our church just finished our kids club 2 weeks and boy was it tiring….. It was also very challenging. I was very challenged by the bible stories that the kids were being told about.  One of the nights the story was on Daniel in the lions den and it got me thinking.  I was brought up in a Christian home and have heard this story many many times, so much so that I almost switch off when I begin to hear it being told.  But last week I didn’t.  As I sat listening, surrounded by the kids it suddenly dawned on me that this ACTUALLY happened.  WOW! I started to think about what this must have been like for Daniel.  He was a faithful man, he prayed three times a day, and he never hurt anyone.  Yet here he was thrown into this den of lions.  How would he have felt?  Would he have been scared? Would he have been able to sleep during the night?  I wonder did they circle around him, sniffing his clothes or would they have just backed off?  Then HOW AMAZING would it have been for him when hour after hour the creatures just left him alone. Now that is a miracle.  Here were these creatures, the king of the jungle, and they were in this enclosed space with this man and they didn’t touch him!

So we may not experience this big a miracle in our lives.  But this same God who Daniel served is the God that we serve today.  He is still able to do IMMEASURABLY MORE than we could ever ask or imagine.  When we go through tough times, times of persecution for our faith, we will come out just as strong, and with just as much of faith as Daniel did.  More than that those around us will see God for the faithful, miraculous God that He is.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! (Ephesians 3 v 20.  The Message)
