Reading…

When I was a little girl I used to LOVE reading but as I got older and life got busier I never seemed to have time to read.  However, when I was on my holidays last year I decided to take it up again.  So I bought a few interesting auto biographys and got into them and slowly my love for reading returned.  Now I have got into it again BIG STYLE!!!

As Christians I definitely think there is a responsibility to be careful what we read.  So I decided I wanted to read some fictions books that were not really trashy and that did not fill my head full of rubbish but at the same time I wanted to read without really having to think or concentrate on what I could learn from the book.

This is when I discovered Karen Kingsbury.  She is this amazing Christian writer who writes fiction books.  Now believe me when I say that when I was first told about these books I thought I would not enjoy them and was not sure what to expect.  HOWEVER these books are addictive.  The first series is called the Redemption series and there are five of them.  I read the five of them in 4 weeks (sad I know but there were many late nights and grumpy Lesleys in the morning).  It follows the story of a family called the Baxters as they live their lifes (some are Christians, some are not).  It is amazing how much you get into the story and all that is going on.  I wont say much more as I dont want to spoil the story for anyone who is reading them or would like to read them.

As you can imagine this has been quite an expensive new hobby I have taken up which leads me on to telling you about this website called ICM books (www.icmbooks.co.uk).  It is an online website where you can buy Christian books, CDs etc at a very reasonable price.  Check it out and the delivery is really quick.

So what have I learned from reading my new books?  Well it is very relaxing and more than anything it does not make me feel rubbish after I have read them (like many magazines make me feel when I read them but that is for another blog post).

WARNING!! These books are compelling but also quite cheesy but I love them… Leave me a comment if you have read them or are reading them.

Lesley does indeed love these books. When she is reading them she doesn’t speak to us at lunchtime! Though it is true that most books are filling our heads with rubbish, so everyone should keep these in mind when they are looking for books to read on their summer holidays.

  • Hi there, I too love reading and have recently read a book by Francine Rivers called Redeeming Love. It is a work of fiction based on the story of Hosea and is a gripping read.

As for ICM, I live about 4 miles from the shop and have regularly spent a few hours on a Friday night browsing the books there. The staff are really friendly and it is a great source of all things Christian, from CDs, DVDs to fiction, music books and bibles.

  • I too have recently discovered Karen Kingsbury’s books - they are utterly fantastic and I can’t recommend them enough!!
