Don’t be scared!!

We are ALL scared of something in our lives.  Whether it is spiders, heights etc we would be unlikely to meet someone who wasn’t scared of anything at all.

I recently did an activity in our University Christian Union (CU) where we looked at the fears and reasons we have that make us feel apprehensive about talking about our faith and God’s love for us, to those who do not know the Lord.  Some of the fears included:

  • We were scared that we would tell them the wrong thing.
  • What if they ask questions that we don’t know how to answer?
  • Feeling we were not good enough or that we can’t do it!
  • Feeling someone else would be better!
  • Being challenged.

The list can go on but it is the accumulation of these fears that can prevent us from sharing our faith with others. But why would we have these fears or be scared??

Being challenged was mentioned as a fear, but I believe being challenged is a good thing, because it’s a way for us to learn more about God’s word.  We should not feel scared or worried about saying the wrong thing, Philippians 4:13 reminds us “I can do all things through him he who gives me strength”.

God will provide us with sufficient strength to meet any opportunity that arises for us.  HE will give us the words, we are doing God’s will and he wants us to go out and evangelise for Him.  He is with us when we do this and He will equip us with all we need ‘For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.’ (Philippians 2:13).

So…when you next have the opportunity to sit and discuss faith and God’s love, remember the Bible is factual!  It is the truth and the Lord is with you!

‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’ (Isaiah 41:10)
