July is nearly over and I hope everyone is enjoying the typical Northern Irish weather!?!
Isn’t it funny how everything stops in July and August? We all need a break sometimes, but it is very easy to think that just becasue GB, Youth Fellowship, school etc are off, that we can also take a holiday from God. When you are left by yourself to read your Bible and pray everyday on your own, it is so easy to forget. When you are out of your routine it is easy to miss your quiet time with God. Do you even take your Bible with you when you go away on holiday?
Hopefully if you come across this little blog, and you do feel like it has been a while since you spent some time with God, that this will act as a gentle nudge to get your Bible out!
On the other hand….
Many of you will be spending time in your summer holidays on camps and missions. You will be spending time in a group of people and environment in which you are totally immersed in God’s work. Those are times when it is so easy to be a Christian, you will get so much from your devotional times with the teams you are serving with! However, what happens when you come home?
As you empty your rucksack into the washing basket and have that hour long shower, to make up for the smelliness of the week before, are you thinking about how you can keep on this journey with God? The next day, when you crawl out of bed at 2pm having got caught up with your sleep, do you spend the same amount of time with God as you did when you were at camp?
Hopefully if you come across this little blog, and you feel like it is too hard to spend time with God without the team around, that this will act as an encourgament to keep on going!
In Deuteronomy 31:8 (The Message) Moses tells Joshua, “God is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t worry.”
We should remember those words, because God is with us always, no matter where we are in the world, who we are with, or if it has been weeks, months or even years since we last prayed to Him. God does not take a holdiay from us, so we would encourage you not to take a holiday from Him!
Sarah
