Girls’ Brigade announces three-year charity partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Ireland.

For the next three years, Girls’ Brigade Northern Ireland are delighted to announce their partnership with local charity, Habitat for Humanity, Ireland, to support families in need of a safe home to live.

Habitat for Humanity, Ireland is part of a wider international Christian housing organisation that helps families and communities to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter in 70 countries around the world.

Across Ireland, Habitat for Humanity, Ireland raises funds to support partner programmes around the world, focussing on the key themes of peace building, orphans and vulnerable children, the impacts of urbanisation, and disaster response and mitigation.

Habitat Ireland also directly tackles poverty through its network of Habitat ReStores which provide access to low-cost home improvement materials, employability training for people of all abilities and diverts tons of material from landfill.  ReStore also raises funds to support long-term partner programmes in some of our world’s poorest communities.

GBNI will be encouraging our GB companies across the province to unite to raise much needed funds to support Habitat, in their work to build safe and secure homes for communities not just in Ireland, but with their other partnership programmes in Cambodia, Ethiopia, India, Malawi, Romania and Zambia.  All funds raised will go directly to the work of Habitat, primarily to help build homes that will support families to improve their lives, with the safety and security that a Habitat home provides and will ensure access to clean water and sanitation for the wider communities too.

GBNI will be organising a number of fundraising events and activities for GB members to take part in during the partnership.  Keep an eye out in our Newsletter and on the GBNI website for details of upcoming events and how to get involved.

Individual GB companies are urged to come up with some novel ideas to fundraise and support this partnership.   Check out the Charity Partnership Resources folder in the Leaders’ Section for ideas to help you fundraise within your GB company.  All monies raised should be sent to GBHQ and not directly to Habitat for Humanity.  Cheques made payable to GBNI.

Over the next three years, GBNI and Habitat for Humanity will also being working together to develop interactive resources for all ages groups that can be used across our four-sided programme.   Together we hope to increase awareness and provide opportunities to our members to grow into active citizens who can make a real difference in their local community and around the world.  These resources will be distributed directly to Company Captains and are available to download from the Charity partnership Resource folder in the Leaders’ Section.
